Die Marmorherzen, oder: von Athen nach Paris : Melodrama in 2 Abtheilungen und 5 Akten ca. 1853, 1875-1885.

The German play is freely adapted from the French play Les Filles de marbre, by Barrière and Thiboust. The file contains materials related to performance or rehearsal, including a published copy (Berlin, 1853; marked "Als Manuscript gedrückt" and printed by A. Bahn & Co., Berlin), which has been annotated as a prompt-book, and 16 role books. The title page of the published copy indicates that the music is by Thuiskon Hauptner, but no music is included here. The role books are for the following parts (with some characters linked as pairs): Phidias/Rafael; Gorgieas/Marquis d'Agençon; Alcibiades/Julian von Maussard; Diogenes/Desgenais; Strabo, Sklave; Thea/Marie; Baron Beaulieu; Tréville, Banquier; Madame Didier; Elvire, Sängerin; Josephine, Schauspielerin; Julie and Feodore (Tänzerinnen); Renard, Wirth; John, Diener; and Juliette, Kammermädchen. The names of the actors and actresses noted on the role books are recognizable from the cast listings of other German-language performances in Philadelphia in the mid 1870s to the early 1880s, although there are no references to this play in the collection's holdings of theater newspapers and playbills.
